If the GAA surveyed its membership of more than 500,000, how many would answer ‘yes’ to this question – ‘do you think it’s in hurling’s best interests that all but four counties are eliminated from the championship by midsummer’s day?’
It’s doubtful there would be a single ‘yes’ among the replies. How could anybody make a logical argument for slowing hurling action down to a trickle at a time when the weather, the grounds and the public appetite are all perfectly aligned?
