Friday horse racing tips
- YORK
3.35: Stargazed 6/5 (1pt)
4.10: Burrito 5/2 (1.5pts) - CHESTER
3.25: Neardown 14/1 each-way (0.5pt) - NEWTON ABBOT
6.45: Hugos New Horse 6/4 (2pts)
Stargazed
Just the eight runners for this race for two-year-old fillies.
Bleep Test is just about the second favourite at 7/2 and could go either way in the betting given her 2nd place debut and win last time out.
But that win was over 6f and drops back to 5f where that may not be her best suited trip in comparison at least to her rivals – many of whom are yet to race at all.
Stargazed is the favourite for trainer Karl Burke and jockey Clifford Lee, who aren’t quite having the best turn over in wins from the amount of runners.
But they still hold huge appeal with this Zoustar filly who’s not only been the favourite throughout the day on Thursday but also gone in further in the odds.
Burrito
This is a very tough race, with many winning last time out or like Sovereign Sea placing a close second.
Burrito won on his debut this season, beating that horse by half a length.
The gelding won by half a length and was subsequently upped a huge 10lb.
But he won so nicely he showed that he can handle the rise and is just making the expected step up in class that his trainers John & Thady Gosden knew was a possibility.
The Lope De Vega gelding has huge potential and to come into this favourite there’s clearly hope this horse will continue that rise.
Neardown
Won at Chester on debut under Saffie Osborne and then despite being sixth next time out, still ran with a lot of credit behind Dividend.
He’s shown that he can handle the sharp track already and that can often translate well going over the same course again.
I do think Raulin has a nice chance of also showing more but Neardown looks to be well-weighted and can make the most of that on his first run of the season where he could be angled perfectly with that winter of improvement to help him.
He’s also a huge each-way price for a horse already proven over this course but of course is also unexposed which can be both a positive and negative at times.
Hugos New Horse
Only four runners for this chase contest featuring some very good hurdlers looking to improve in this discipline.
Hugos New Horse comes into this with his trainer Paul Nicholls in great form and of course Harry Cobden on board is always a plus.
Won nicely at Plumpton over an extended 3m1f in April and has the ability to make all as he seems to have got the hang of chasing quite nicely.
Will get good ground which should be beneficial as he’s struggled on soft before.
Only upped 4lb for that victory but with two months off they must be confident he’s ready to go well again.
