It is believed some board members are in favour of keeping Wilder.
However, others would prefer a change of direction after they were beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the Championship play-off final.
Sheffield United finished third and ten points adrift of champions Leeds United and Burnley in the automatic promotion spots.
