In my dream scenario, what would have happened after extra-time of the Munster final was for John Kiely and Pat Ryan to meet with a handshake and make an agreement: Let’s get our players off the pitch, we’re not doing penalties.
Up to now, I wasn’t sure about shootouts but after this I’m certain: I don’t want to see that again. Penalties are an awful way to lose. I’d rather throw it in for one last play and just say, ‘next score wins’. At least then it’s decided by hurling.
